Accessing your lab work in british columbia

Last Updated: Feb 9, 2025

For patients in British Columbia looking to access their lab work, there are two primary online portals available: My Care Compass and My Health Gateway. Each platform serves a different function, and understanding their distinctions can help you retrieve your health records more efficiently.

My Care Compass

My Care Compass is a direct portal for lab results and allows patients to view lab work ordered by healthcare providers. However, it is important to note that:

  • Lab results from tests conducted before setting up an account will not be available.

  • To register, patients must request a code at the time of their blood draw—this is a one-time requirement. Once the account is set up, future lab results will automatically populate.

My Health Gateway

My Health Gateway acts as a broader health record portal. It provides:

  • More backdated records than My Care Compass.

  • Lab work requested by naturopathic doctors does not consistently appear on My Health Gateway, but it does show up on My Care Compass.

  • Access to prescription history in addition to lab results.

  • A comprehensive history of medical interactions in BC.

Which One Should You Use?

  • If you are looking for recent lab results, especially those requested by naturopathic doctors, My Care Compass is the more reliable option.

  • If you need older records or want access to prescription history, My Health Gateway is the better choice.

By setting up both accounts, you can ensure full access to your health records and make informed decisions about your care. Remember to request your My Care Compass activation code at your next blood draw if you haven't already!
